Giving and Receiving

"Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again." Luke 6:38; These words of Christ Jesus indicate an unfailing law of supply. Simply put, it is this; We receive in the measure that we give.

Supply, therefore, is not so much something we have to get, or acquire, as it is something we have to give, or express. It must be recognized as spiritual and unlimited. It could be compared to the qualities of divine Mind, to love or to happiness. The only way we can have love is to express it, and the only way we can be happy is to give happiness. Why should it be any other way with supply?

The reason that mankind find it hard to accept this law of supply is that they have been generally educated to think of supply as material, or physical, and therefore necessarily limited. But Christian Science shows supply to be primarily a divinely mental concept, or idea, rather than a physical quantity. God, Spirit, makes His man spiritual, equipped with an infinite outpouring of spiritual attributes and truths to express Him. What is needed, then, is to awaken to this fact. Because God is infinite good, one's supply of good is as great as his consciousness of it and his reflection of it.
