I awoke one day with a heavy cold, and although I worked for myself as we are taught in Christian Science, the difficulty did not yield but became progressively worse. It seemed to be influenza.
Since it was the Christmas holiday period, I did not like to telephone a Christian Science practitioner for help; so I still continued praying to know my true spiritual nature in God's likeness, but with no apparent result. Next evening when I went to bed, I found I could not breathe lying down, and spent the night sitting in a chair. By this time I was very fearful, for I had severe pain when I breathed deeply, and the thought of pleurisy was uppermost in my thought.
The subject of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly for that week was "God," and although I had studied this, it just didn't register; I felt I had not gained much from it. The following day I telephoned a practitioner and asked for help.
