Fresh Thinking
One of the demands of these times is to keep abreast of events and of the unfolding ideas that are constantly coming to the forefront of human experience. Nothing is quite as evident in today's society as the movement of thought away from old standpoints. While some may decry the forsaking of many traditions, it is nonetheless a fact of life. We must face this phenomenon and find the steady advance that religion has for us under any and all circumstances. Being the ultimate in the discovery of God and His laws, Christian Science must always be found in the vanguard of advancing society. In our study of this Science we must reflect the fact that God is the infinite creative Principle always unfolding in new forms, new ideas, new expression.
Such movement of thought presents challenging situations, which call for new solutions, creative unfoldment, fresh thinking. No one should infer from these statements that the laws of God are outdated. No one should ever believe that we are in a post-Christian era. Such beliefs betray a basic misunderstanding of the nature of God and His Christ, His manifestation. But it is evident in the Bible that throughout human history there has been a constantly evolving concept or understanding of God. The change from the Old Testament to the New Testament shows a dramatic advance in this understanding. It was a new idea of God and of God's law that Christ Jesus brought to humanity. This basic change from a legalistic sense of God to a concept of God as Love altered the very root concepts of society and religion.
There is nothing static about creation, and there should be nothing static about our thinking if we are reflecting God, the infinite creative Principle. One of the evidences of inspired study of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, is the fact that we find new ideas constantly evolving from the statements therein. Unless this movement of thought is apparent, we are not partaking of Truth in our daily communion and study.
