This Is It!

Man is really God's perfect child now. Yet we are much given to accepting an imperfect status for ourselves in the present and looking forward to improvement in the future. We conclude, for example, that by the day after tomorrow, the day of our dinner engagement with the Joneses, we shall surely have overcome this illness. Or that when we can move from this neighborhood Johnny is bound to become better mannered. Or that when a change in public administration occurs there will be more honesty in government.

But the Apostle Paul says, "Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation." II Cor. 6:2; And Mrs. Eddy writes, "Man is as perfect now, and henceforth, and forever, as when the stars first sang together, and creation joined in the grand chorus of harmonious being." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 188; Unless we accept the point of view that even at this instant things are as they should be, we are not being true to the fundamentals of Christian Science. Nor are we apt to receive many benefits available to those who practice the religion.

We should often remind ourselves that "this is it." Heaven is here. Scientifically speaking, we are already in the state of bliss we long for. All is harmonious and perfect right now. We should not be continually looking forward with the expectation of realizing a better state, for improvement beyond present perfection is impossible. Likewise, looking backward could not possibly call to mind a situation more desirable than the perfect now.
