After more than four years of active military service during World War II, including two years as a combat infantry soldier and finally twelve months in Army hospitals undergoing major surgical operations for severe multiple sharpnel wounds on the entire right side of my body, I was granted a medical discharge.
The operations were not successful, and upon my release I was advised that I would just have to learn to live with, and adjust to, a paralyzed and deformed right arm and hand, a hip wound that resulted in three-eighths of an inch shortening of the right leg, necessitating a special shoe lift, and a sciatic difficulty causing pain from hip to toe. These disabilities imparied my capabilities.
Some thirteen years ago Christian Science crossed my path. A family member reached out in time of need for the truths of this religion. Although I did not immediately embrace Science, I went along with its comforting message in blind belief.
