Freedom from Tyranny

Whether or not one is participating in a freedom march or overtly expressing his sympathy with those who desire greater release from limitation, he may still be working directly and intelligently for the liberty that all men rightly inherit. Christian Science, the Science that has launched the great campaign for freedom from all forms of bondage, enables one to zero in on the so-called cause of all tyranny and strike at the very basis of limitation. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "The despotic tendencies, inherent in mortal mind and always germinating in new forms of tyranny, must be rooted out through the action of the divine Mind." Science and Health, p. 225;

It is, of course, futile just to shift from one form of tyranny to another. And yet this is what may take place through human efforts if there is no fundamental change of thinking involved. One must relinquish the inherited prejudices, the tendencies toward bigotry, the feelings of inferiority. The only way to accomplish this tremendous task is through understanding and demonstrating the right idea of man in the image and likeness of God. It is the coming of Christ, the true idea of God, that changes human thought and regenerates our attitude toward our neighbor.

Jesus came to bring the Christ to humanity, to liberate all men from bondage of every description. He came to uplift the lowly, to set the captive free, to enable the individual to exercise his rights as the child of God. He spoke to every receptive thought. He said, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." John 10:10; One can see the effect of the Christ in human history, the effect of Christianity in bringing about the liberation of mortals from bondage and from tyranny. Christian Science, the coming of the Comforter,is now enabling men to demonstrate freedom from sickness and sin as never before and is loosening humanity from the bonds of prejudice and bigotry as well.
