RADIO PROGRAM NO. 325 Breaking Harmful Habits

Questioner: In my work I have seen a number of people who have harmful habits—either harmful to their health or to their careers—which they would love to break. What can they do?

Speaker: One thing such a person can do is to take a serious look at himself and ask: "What am I really? Am I a mortal with inherent weaknesses, hopelessly enslaved by habits or characteristics that I can't break? Or do I have a dimension to my being that I'm not aware of? Is there a strength that I'm not utilizing?" I mean, of course, the strength of God, divine Mind, which man expressed or reflects as His image, as the Bible brings out.

There's a verse in Psalms that says (28:7), "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped." That shows that the source of man's strength is God, not human willpower or positive thinking or brain. And another verse in Psalms says (8:6), "Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet."
