When I first took a step to have Christian Science help, it was...
When I first took a step to have Christian Science help, it was for my son who from birth had had a breathing difficulty that defied the knowledge of the medical faculty. The condition became steadily worse. It was then that a friend asked me to take the child to a Christian Science practitioner. This I did, and as I reached the door of the practitioner's home, I knew that I was entering a new realm of thought and was grateful for it. The child responded to the help, but received only temporary relief. When he reached high school, he began to make more vigorous efforts to help himself. During this time he and I were growing in our understanding of God and of the man of God's creating, and we were healed of the belief that such an ailment could be any part of his being. His physical healing took place.
On one occasion when my sister was in our home, she was ill, and, to all human appearance, she seemed to be passing on. She and I were alone in the bedroom, and we steadfastly held to the truth that we were witnesses to the birth of the Christ in our consciousness, that the living Christ demonstrates peace, health, and continuing life.
During this period of affirming and accepting the presence of the healing Christ, the same practitioner who had helped my son came to our home and stood quietly in the room where we were. The reversal of the picture of one passing on to the evidence of life and well-being was so quick that with complete freedom I turned and exchanged pleasantries with the practitioner and returned to the duties I had been doing before being called to my sister's side. The truths we proved at that time are still inspiring to me.
