"The great work"

Christian Scientists are constantly called upon to reaffirm their active dedication to what Mrs. Eddy calls "the great work." She writes: "Will you give yourselves wholly and irrevocably to the great work of establishing the truth, the gospel, and the Science which are necessary to the salvation of the world from error, sin, disease, and death? Answer at once and practically, and answer aright!" Miscellaneous Writings, p. 177;

The worldwide errors of our immediate day are ancient ones in new garb. We are seeing nation rise against nation, brother against brother. We are witnessing poverty and famine. We are seeing race prejudice expressing itself in unbelievable individual and group conflict. We are hearing predictions of the prophets of godless ideologies. And for the first time in history mankind are threatened with mass annihilation. Only in the last quarter of a century have men's inventions menaced their very existence.

But happily, when we are most concerned with the evils now confronting us, we remember that nearly twenty centuries ago Christ Jesus, infallible prophet, declared, "All these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet." Matt. 24:6; And he added: "He that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come."
