"Am I loved?"

"Am I loved?" is a question we frequently ask ourselves but are rarely aware we're asking! We are asking it, though, when we wonder if family or friends are appreciative of what we are doing. That is because the appreciation we seek is a quality of love.

We are asking it when we question whether our abilities will be recognized and rewarded, for recognition and reward are expressions of love. And when we feel we have been defrauded of an opportunity to bless, or when we doubt that we possess what is needed to meet demands made upon us, we are asking again, "Am I loved?" The desire to bless and the qualities and attributes we need in order to bless are derived from God. They are expressions of His love for us.

Through the teachings of Christian Science we learn how to claim and prove our eternal unity with the source of love, God, divine Love. As long as mankind have existed, they have expressed to some degree the love that has its origin in God. John declared God to be Love, and he rejoiced to perceive that God shows His love for us by identifying us as His sons. God's son is never separated from the love of Love any more than he can be separated from God. Therefore he is never in search of love; but as human beings, we have to prove this. We must and can prove our heritage of all that belongs to Love. This is how we learn what it means to be the beloved son of God.
