Said Jonathan, "I did but taste
A little honey... and, lo, I must die."
But he was rescued from that sentence
As mercy overruled an unjust lie.
Yes, one wrong thought, one unwatched step,
Would sentence us to suffering or worse;
But there is a converse proposition
By which we prove this mortal law's reverse:
Think one right thought, take one right step.
Do one good deed, by Love's direction given:
And rising from dust of condemnation,
Already we are on our way to heaven.
