Receptivity: The Open Door to Healing

How true is the saying, "He who would receive must have an open hand"! We learn in proportion to our openness of mind. A willing heart is quickly responsive; an expectant mind receives gladly; a grateful heart accepts good with grace and humility.

Christian Science teaches that bountiful blessings of healing are possible to the one who eagerly accepts the offering of divine ideas. Christ Jesus emphasized this point when he said, "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." Matt. 5:6;

In bringing the healing power of the Word of God to mankind, the Master required two things: receptivity to divine Truth and obedience to his application of Truth to the problem of the one seeking healing. Jesus encouraged receptivity, as when he said to the invalid at the pool of Bethesda, "Wilt thou be made whole?" Later he admonished the man to obey the moral requirements for complete healing—"Sin no more." John 5:6, 14:
