Purifying the Moral Atmosphere

Have you ever been in a place where someone seemed intent on keeping the thought of those present on a very low level through lewd insinuations, off-color jokes, and perhaps objectionable behavior? Very often young people do find themselves in this kind of atmosphere and don't quite know what to do about it.

Often those who lend themselves to this type of behavior do so through feelings of insecurity. They put up a front of worldliness and sophistication to cover up their lack of confidence and poise. They are really ignorant of man's God-given heritage as the complete, perfect male and female of God's creating. In the first chapter of Genesis we read, "God created man in his own image...; male and female created he them."^{ Gen. 1:27;}

Christian Science teaches that God is divine Principle, Spirit. One who understands his sonship with God does not fall back on crudities to give him a sense of status in the group he's with. Mrs. Eddy says, "Happiness consists in being and in doing good; only what God gives, and what we give ourselves and others through His tenure, confers happiness: conscious worth satisfies the hungry heart, and nothing else can."^{ Message to The Mother Church for 1902, p. 17;}
