The Bible with its beautiful promises of God's love for His children...
The Bible with its beautiful promises of God's love for His children has always been an inspiration to me, and this verse from Jeremaiah particularly so (31:3): "The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee."
Reviewing the past years, I can see how God's loving-kindness has brought me through many storms and valleys. My girlhood was very unhappy. I also suffered much pain with a diseased frontal head bone. Several operations were performed for this condition without any improvement. A consultation was held by specialists, and they decided that the only relief I might obtain would be to have the bone removed, although they also predicted that the bone on the other side might become infected, and that the operation would leave me disfigured. I prayed about this situation and decided to put up with the pain and not have any further surgery.
Some years after our marriage my husband requested that we enroll our children in a Sunday School and that we start attending church services ourselves. One Sunday morning we visited a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. After attending services for some time and also reading the Christian Science periodicals, I began to see what had to take place. I discerned clearly that it was not an operation that I needed but purification of my thinking. I asked a Christian Science practitioner to help me through prayer; and a great mental housecleaning began. Our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, writes in Science and Health (p. 162), "Christian Science brings to the body the sunlight of Truth, which invigorates and purifies." and on this same page she also states that "it changes the secretions, expels humors, dissolves tumors, relaxes rigid muscles, restores carious bones to soundness."
