On Quicker Healing

Biographies of Mrs. Eddy show that she healed quickly. Her treatments were strong and decisive. The following quotation from a biography tells of one such healing. It is about a little girl who never had walked. Mrs. Eddy called at her home this day to ask about her. The biography says: "The child's mother, in great sorrow, replied that the child had been taken ill and had just died. Mrs. Eddy then asked to see the child and to be left alone with her. The mother assented reluctantly, saying that nothing could be done; it was too late. When left with the child, or with its lifeless body, Mrs. Eddy took it in her arms and began to pray. Becoming conscious only of infinite Life, Truth, and Love, she became oblivious of the material situation until the child recalled her to human surroundings by sitting up and asking for her mother. Then, when the mother came in response to Mrs. Eddy's summons, the child ran to her, enabled to use her limbs as well as restored to life."Historical Sketches by Clifford P. Smith, p. 80;

The healing came while Mrs. Eddy prayed to God. In Science, such prayer is treatment. But exactly what is a Christian Science treatment, and how can it be made to heal quickly?

Christian Science treatment is the application of the truth of God, man, and the universe to a human problem. The student of Christian Science understands God, Spirit, good, to be everywhere, the only Mind, Truth, Life, and Love. He understands that the only real man, as well as the only real universe, is entirely spiritual and good. From this allness of Spirit, good, and its manifestation in spirituality and goodness, the student concludes that the evidence of sin and disease are illusions. Although they seem real to their own false sense, actually they are nonexistent. In treatment, then, the student replaces all wrong concepts of his patient with the opposite understanding of the patient's real nature as God's perfect, spiritual expression, His exact reflection. This brings healing.
