Demonstrating the Christ

Christian Science teaches that the understanding of the wholly Godlike nature of man endows us with power and ability to overcome everything unlike good. In this Science we learn that we progress in the degree that we demonstrate the Christ, the true idea of God, and express intelligence, love, goodness, and joy in daily living. The demonstration of man's true, spiritual selfhood is accomplished as we relinquish false, material beliefs and express God-given qualities.

Mankind commonly believe that man is material and that he is governed by health laws which say that it is natural for him to experience both good and evil. They accept the certainty of sin, disease, and death. Christian Scientists reject these false theories. They accept without reservation the truth of man as stated in the first chapter of Genesis, where it is written, "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him." Gen. 1:27;

Here and now we must begin to demonstrate our true identity as children of God. We must claim our true selfhood as it exists in Christ. We need to lift our thought higher than mortal mind with its limitations and lies and hold steadfastly to the spiritual idea of ourselves and of our brother men. It is necessary for us to decide hourly whether our thoughts and acts are in accordance with God's law or whether they are yielding to personal sense, envy, hatred, or selfishness.
