Although I was reared in Christian Science, it was not until I was twenty-five years old, newly married, and my wife was expecting our first child that I was awakened to the fact that I must begin to demonstrate my own salvation and not continue to rely on others to do the work for me.
Since early childhood I had been in bondage to a false sense of pride, human will, and haughtiness. A complete transformation of character gradually took place following the healing of a serious physical problem in 1948.
I had lost my job as a reporter for one of the nation's leading daily newspapers and was unable to find new employment where we were living. My wife and I were welcomed into the home of her mother, who lived some fifteen hundred miles away.
