Ever-appearing Creation
Viewing the universe through the material senses, human intellect interprets it as a wonderful and immense material creation governed by physical law. Christian Science, however, explains creation as being not material but spiritual, the unending appearing of the manifestation of infinite Life, Truth, and Love. Creation, the outcome of God's selfhood, holds all the things of God we most cherish. It holds for each of us a place in His spiritual kingdom and a heritage of abundant good.
Mrs. Eddy, writing of creation, states; "Creation is ever appearing, and must ever continue to appear from the nature of its inexhaustible source. Mortal sense inverts this appearing and calls ideas material. Thus misinterpreted, the divine idea seems to fall to the level of a human or material belief, called mortal man." Science and Health, pp. 507, 508;
The phenomena of creation are misrepresented by the material senses and appear to be physical and corporeal mixtures of good and evil. But as a truer sense of God is attained, a truer sense of creation follows, human consciousness develops spiritually, and thought eventually rises to the zenith of spiritual understanding. Then mortal sense disappears and true being is recognized. This goal still seems to be a long way off for mankind, but we can see how human thought is advancing. For instance, there is a great distance between the superstitious belief in a tribal deity to be appeased by blood sacrifice, as in the days of the Old Testament, and the advanced and satisfying sense of Deity held by present-day Christians, including students of Christian Science.
