I should like to tell of my first healing in Christian Science. I had been suffering from a painful physical ailment, which returned periodically and grew worse at each recurrence. All material aid gave only temporary relief; and while suffering from a very severe attack, having just about reached the depths of despondency, I was prevailed upon by my wife, who was an earnest student of Christian Science, to try her religion.

As a last resort I agreed to have my wife visit a practitioner in my behalf. I knew nothing whatever about Christian Science at the time, and I didn't even talk with the practitioner myself; but in one absent treatment I was instantaneously healed. I felt a great sense of calm and peace come over me as soon as the practitioner began prayerful work. The pains left and I was free. I shall always be grateful for this healing and for the love and tender patience my wife and her mother used in urging me to turn to God for help through Christian Science.

This was the turning point in my life. Shortly after that I had a sincere desire to give up the smoking habit, which was one of long standing. I had tried in various ways to use willpower, but to no avail. One day while reading a Sentinel, I came across an article that revealed to me very clearly that God gave man dominion and that an understanding of this spiritual fact would give me dominion over any erroneous habit. I held to this revelation of truth for several days, and all desire for tobacco left me. Along with this habit, without any special thought, I lost the desire for alcoholic drinks.
