RADIO PROGRAM No. 160 - What Governs You?

QUESTIONER: The individual in today's world often feels like a mere cipher, unimportant in the scheme of things, frustrated in his efforts to help himself, his family, his society. Walter H. Judd in the Reader's Digest writes that "government is constantly taking over more responsibility, exercising more control, leveling society into a gray blur of bureaucracy." He says young men and women are concerned about their future, adding, "What chance, they want to know, has individual initiative today?"

Would you comment on this?

SPEAKER: Anyone who predicates his ability or opportunity to develop his talents and use his initiative on the thought of chance has something to be concerned about because he is, in effect, from the very outset admitting the possibility of frustration or failure, based upon what he believes to be forces which are outside of his control. But, on the other hand, the individual who learns to discipline himself, to govern his own thinking and his own actions, will find opportunities to use his talent and initiative.
