Handling Latent Errors
One often hears of stirring up the muddy river bottom so that the stream may be purified. So in Christian Science when one prays earnestly for a higher sense of his spiritual selfhood, divine Love acts upon his thinking to dislodge stubborn and impure beliefs. Our aim is to grow in Christly goodness until the force of Truth washes away whatever impurity seems to exist in thought. Through purification of consciousness, Christian Science reveals the possibility of our solving life's problems, healing all sicknesses and resolving our burdens into joyous accomplishment.
Material sense classifies various diseases as incurable. That seemingly incurable sickness can be healed was illustrated by Christ Jesus. A man brought his epileptic son to Jesus' disciples, who found they could not cure the condition. When the son was brought to him, Jesus asked the father (Mark 9:21), "How long is it ago since this came unto him?" And the answer was, "Of a child."
Jesus, after encouraging the father to believe, turned to the son and forcibly rebuked the error, saying, "Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him." And the account continues: "He was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead. But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose." The boy was cured.
