Christian Science was mentioned twice to me before I was ready to investigate it. The third time that it was brought to my attention I was ready for it. I was then pursuing' a medical course. I became ill with tuberculosis of the lungs and was placed in a sanatorium and given six months to a year to live.

The only relative not afraid to come to see me was one who was a student of Christian Science. He made arrangements with the authorities for me to come to his home, and in two weeks' time I was there.

He gave me Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy to read. I recall reading, "Who would stand before a blackboard, and pray the principle of mathematics to solve the problem?" (p. 3.) I was actually making no effort in any way to help myself, but the definition of God on page 587 was to me a great revelation, because I had always had a very personal sense of God. In the definition are included the seven synonyms for God, "Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love."
