Although I did not take up the study of Christian Science specifically for a healing, I have since had reason to be humbly grateful for its healing efficacy. Here I should like to relate two experiences that demonstrate this and also to express gratitude for the correction of defects of character and for the way Science has changed my whole life.
One day a colleague and I were on a terrace in a large garden, waiting to serve refreshments to boys who would be coming up from a cricket match. We were looking over a balustrade at some shrubs in the garden when I saw a plant, the stalk of which was covered with a fungus. My first reaction was a sense of unpleasantness.
Then I noticed that the fungus had not hindered the growth of the plant, since it was so tall. It was a type of fungus that was no part of the plant; it had come from the outside and could not really harm the plant. My thought was interrupted at this point by the serving of refreshments; so the plant was forgotten temporarily.
