WORDS OF CURRENT INTEREST

[The words in this issue are related to the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly designated to be read in Christian Science churches on August 16, 1964.]

Thou Wilt Ordain Peace For Us: For Thou Also Hast Wrought All Our Works In Us (Isa. 26:12)

The Hebrew word shaphath (ordain) also means "place, set, put, or give"; while the remarkably expressive word shalom (peace) possesses a wide variety of additional meanings including security, prosperity, friendship, safety, welfare, and health. Moffatt suggests, "Oh maintain our welfare; for whatsoever we achieve is all thy doing"; while Louth has, "Jehovah, thou wilt ordain for us peace: for even all our mighty deeds thou hast performed for us."

By Thee only will we make Mention of thy name (Isa. 26:13)
