I have been a student of Christian Science for more than thirty years, and although I have experienced many healings, there is one healing for which I am especially grateful not only because of the physical release but because of a lesson learned.

For many years I had a nagging backache caused by a slipped disk. Before I was a student of Christian Science, I would have it put in place by a chiropractor, but it always slipped out again; so I finally accepted the constant discomfort as a part of my experience.

Then one evening at a Wednesday testimony meeting, a man told of his healing of a back condition similar to mine. His testimony awakened me to the awareness that a healing was possible. I began to study and pray. But, without realizing it, I was working to heal my back of a physical condition instead of turning to God first, as I should have done, and seeing the material condition as a false belief of mortal mind, and therefore powerless. However, the pain did disappear for a while, only to return a few weeks later in a much more alarming form, I was unable to move without great pain.
