When I was still a very new...
When I was still a very new student of Christian Science. I decided to rely completely on its teachings for a healing.
I began to show disturbing symptoms of an unpleasant virus infection one day at work. I was in much pain and could breathe only in short gasps. The company doctor who examined me voiced grave consequences should I fail to follow his orders and take the medicine which he gave me. I thanked him, but on the way to my locker to go home as he had ordered me to do I realized that I must act quickly, or I might weaken; so I washed all the medicine down a drain. I resisted the temptation to keep "just one pill" by saying aloud. "What God can't do, man need not try." Mrs. Eddy puts it this way (Science and Health, p. 231): "What God cannot do, man need not attempt."
I did not own a copy of the textbook, Science and Health, so I stopped at the public library and borrowed one.
