Even before the First World War, I had heard of Christian Science but could not imagine that I would ever become interested in it. I was in good health and lived in comfortable circumstances. However, my wife had suffered since childhood from a disease which the doctors called incurable. Each time I returned home on furlough during the war, I found my wife either in bed or walking with the aid of two canes. Then, about forty years ago, a business friend brought Christian Science into our home. My wife accepted it at once and in a short time was healed. She has not had a doctor since that time.

Although I witnessed this healing, I still could not decide to accept Christian Science. I was doing well, and I thought I had no time for anything besides my business. Then, through the fault of others in the business, I suffered very heavy losses. This depressed me to such an extent that I had no desire to go on living.

But my wife and Christian Science friends stood by me, and one day when, thanks to their support, I had become highly successful, I attended a Christian Science Wednesday evening testimony meeting for the first time. Since then—about thirty-five years ago—I have been absent from very few testimony meetings or services. I have become a member of The Mother Church and a branch church.
