RADIO PROGRAM No. 74 - Don't Postpone Your Happiness!

HOST: Not long ago I heard of a survey in which a researcher asked three thousand people, "What have you to live for?" He reported that 94 percent were simply enduring the present while they waited for the future. They were postponing their happiness. They were waiting for something to change, for children to grow up and leave home, for a long-dreamed-of trip—in other words, just waiting for tomorrow.

I think this raises a question: Can people plan for the future and still find joy and fulfillment in the present?

SPEAKER: They certainly can. In fact, learning how to appreciate the good that's present right here and now is what enables us to appreciate the good that comes to us in the future. You know, we really can't just depend on tomorrow's good to bring us happiness today, any more than we can depend on tomorrow's sunshine to warm us today.
