On Requesting Exemptions

When a Christian Scientist, through exercising his right to freedom in the practice of his religion, requests exemption from medical indoctrination, examination, or treatment for himself or his children, no element of fanaticism or mere religious zeal is involved. Nor is his dependence upon spiritual means for protection or healing a matter of blind faith, for he has proved in his own experience the healing power of God. He has found practical the truth of Mrs. Eddy's statement (Science and Health, pp. 180, 181): "To reduce inflammation, dissolve a tumor, or cure organic disease, I have found divine Truth more potent than all lower remedies. And why not, since Mind, God, is the source and condition of all existence?"

The results of research and development in the laboratory are enabling people to gain a new and ever-expanding sense of their physical environment. Through Christian Science, people are becoming acquainted with the metaphysical or spiritual realm in which man lives, and they are bringing their lives into harmony with divine law and the spiritual realities of being. And as they do, they are prepared through prayerful metaphysical work to deal effectively with sin and disease. Each demonstration of the power of Truth over error encourages them to gain a better sense of moral and spiritual values and the practical application of these to human problems.
