Many years ago, when I was in my early teens, Christian Science was introduced to my mother. She had been called upon to care for a niece who was extremely ill and appeared to be at the point of death. This relative was relying solely on Christian Science treatment. She was bedridden, and it was necessary for my mother to talk to the practitioner on the telephone in behalf of the patient. Mother witnessed the rapid healing of her niece, and this experience with the healing ministry of the Christ, Truth, as revealed in Science made a profound impression upon her.

Upon her return home, my mother purchased the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. All medicines were discarded, and we began to attend the services in a Christian Science church a few miles from our home. I was placed in the Sunday School and have been ever grateful for this blessed opportunity.

At this time I was afflicted with chronic bronchitis, which had accompanied a rather delicate childhood. During my infancy a doctor had told my parents that in his opinion my survival was doubtful. Each year I missed several weeks of school because of the bronchitis.
