RADIO PROGRAM No. 60 - Health and God's Law
HOST: The search to understand health and the laws governing it has gone on for centuries. Lately, one of the interesting developments has been the growing recognition of the mental causes of disease.
In his book, "Arthritis, Medicine and the Spiritual Laws," a Boston orthopedic specialist, Dr. Loring T. Swaim, says he found over many years that "physical ups and downs were traceable to . . . emotional disturbances." He discovered that arthritic patients progressed when they learned to deal with harmful emotions that were, as he says, "a primary factor in the onset and the development" of the disease. However, his experience showed, he says, that "permanent release from harmful emotions can come only through 'change.' " And he concluded, "People cannot change themselves by self-effort. They can 'improve,' but they do not really change deep down inside unless they are related to some Power outside themselves." (Quotations from Arthritis, Medicine and the Spiritual Laws by Loring T. Swaim. Copyright, 1962, by the author. Used with the permission of the publishers, Chilton Books, Philadelphia and New York.)
It's apparent from such books, as well as articles and news reports, that a growing number of physicians and clergymen are recognizing the mental causes of disease. And there are those, like Dr. Swaim, who look to prayer and God's law to help the healing process. What is your comment on this?
