My family and I have been...
My family and I have been studying Christian Science since 1956. One Sunday about three years ago my sister and her daughter came to visit us. Because it was nice weather we went to an amusement park. My niece immediately jumped on the merry-go-round and my daughter, who was eight years old at the time, followed her. The merry-go-round had hardly made one turn, when my daughter fell off.
As she got up she complained of a severe pain in her arm. I comforted her and assured her that in the kingdom of God there can be no accidents. We withdrew from the crowd to a quiet place and prayed in Christian Science to the best of our understanding. Then we went home, and I put my daughter to bed.
She asked to see a friend, who is also a Christian Scientist. He began to read some religious articles from The Christian Science Monitor to her at once, and she quieted down. However, at nighttime she again complained of severe pain; so we asked a practitioner to give her treatment. Because she was unable to come to see her right away, the practitioner sent word to the child that the real man never falls. After that the child slept peacefully the whole night through.
