Christian Science had been...
Christian Science had been in my home for several years before I discovered it for myself. While I was away at college, I slipped on the ice after a heavy snow and ice storm, and my kneecap was displaced. A friend was with me and offered to take me to a doctor; but I thanked her and explained that I wanted Christian Science help. I tried later to call a practitioner, but to no avail.
However, another student at the college who was a Christian Scientist came to me and helped in many ways. She reminded me of the importance of gratitude, asking me to count my blessings and write them down. She also walked two miles with me to my local work, and when we would start to slip on the ice she would declare aloud, "God made man upright." The demonstration was complete when fear of the ice was overcome. Within a week's time I was walking with complete confidence, free of pain, and I have had no difficulty from the knee through the years following.
This experience awakened in me a desire for church membership. Later on, class instruction was a blessed experience.
