The spiritual understanding of God which one obtains through the study and application of Christian Science has been a source of great comfort to me since I first attended a Christian Science Sunday School as a child. The knowledge that God is Love, that He is ever present, allpowerful, filling all space, and that He does not send sickness and death has been for me a healing and sustaining power for many years.

Some years ago I noticed a growth beginning to form on my face. I did not pay much attention to it until it began to grow larger and became rather unsightly. Even then I did not do specific prayerful work until someone asked me why I did not have it removed. This awakened me to the fact that I needed to begin to apply Christian Science, and immediately the thought came to me that "the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword" (Hebr. 4:12). Then I remembered these words of Mrs. Eddy's (Science and Health, p. 231): "What God cannot do, man need not attempt."

I realized that I needed no material means, for I had a much better remedy. I knew that the real man, made in the image and likeness of God, can possess or manifest only Godlike qualities, one of which is perfection, and that the real man is spiritual, not material. If, then, man is not matter, there is nothing about him to which a material growth can attach itself.
