It was during a dark period of despair that I met some Christians from America in Peking. They introduced the Bible to me. ... Their dedication to the welfare of a people other than their own aroused my curiosity and admiration. Since they explained that they were inspired by the teachings of Christ, I began to read the New and Old Testaments.
