Progress and Freshness

Even though the world is in a state of disturbance, to the thought of many the stir means progress out of stale traditionalism. New freedoms are being gained constantly in economic, social, and governmental fields as well as in modes of communication and transportation. A decided freshness is apparent as humanity gains dominion over its environment and breaks down limitations once presumed permanent.

Progress always involves freshness of outlook and renewal of interest in life. Christian Science shows us that to achieve mental freshness and physical vigor, we must keep progressing spiritually. And it shows us also how to progress thus through acquaintance with spiritual ideas. The very essence of freshness is the vitality of ideas, which emanate from God, ever unfolding new views of His universe, ever manifesting true power, ever vitalizing man's love of good.

Mary Baker Eddy maintained unfailing freshness of interest in the Science she discovered and founded as she consistently progressed Spiritward. She says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 330), "With each returning year, higher joys, holier aims, a purer peace and diviner energy, should freshen the fragrance of being."
