What Motivates Our Endeavors?

"Our only legitimate motives and deeds are to prove the...healing power of Truth and Love"

In the first chapter of II Chronicles we find an interesting account of an experience that Solomon had after he had been made king over all Israel. God appeared to him and asked what He should give him. The prayer to God was not for riches or honor or the life of his enemies or long life, but for wisdom and knowledge. Because his motive was an earnest, selfless reaching out for understanding, his prayer was answered, and he was also given wealth and honor. The harmonious solutions of the problems which came to him as king evidenced some understanding of man's spiritual sonship, and they indicated dependence upon the government of Mind, God.
