For many years I had a sincere desire to know more of God. Then the Christian Science textbook by Mrs. Eddy was brought into our home. I shall never forget the first time I picked it up and began to read. I knew I had found that for which I had been seeking.
Not long after I took up the study of Science, there came a testing time. Our two-year-old daughter became ill. Although it was not diagnosed, I believe the condition was pneumonia. We asked a practitioner to pray for her, and we endeavored to overcome the fear we felt.
I took the child into bed with me and turned to God in humble prayer. I realized to some degree that in reality she belonged to God; that He is man's only parent. One moment there was much discord, and her fever was very high, and the next moment I felt her relax and discovered that the fever had vanished. The following morning she was well and playing as usual.
