In the Manual of The Mother Church...
In the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy, we read under Article VIII, Section 6, "It shall be the duty of every member of this Church to defend himself daily against aggressive mental suggestion, and not be made to forget nor to neglect his duty to God, to his Leader, and to mankind." This statement was of great help to me at a time of need.
One Monday morning I awakened to find myself in great pain, and my head, neck, and the rest of my body paralyzed. I immediately started to declare the allness of God, good, and the nothingness of evil. My husband joined me in praying as we are taught to do in Science. The condition did not yield readily, so we decided to call a Christian Science practitioner for treatment. She allayed my fear at once, and one of the first statements she made was the above quotation.
As I pondered it, I realized that I had been accepting in my thought the aggressive mental suggestion that some persons were unprincipled and were expressing unlovely traits of character. I knew that this was bearing false witness because I was not seeing them in their true, spiritual selfhood. I immediately started to replace my erroneous thoughts of them with the facts of man as God created him. I knew that the man God created is the only man there really is and that God's man must be perfect, because God is the one perfect Being.
