My mother became interested...
My mother became interested in Christian Science when I was about six years old. I had the privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday School until I was twenty. Later I joined The Mother Church and shortly thereafter a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. However, I was inclined to take my religion for granted and did not avail myself of the full benefits which flow from the earnest study of the textbooks, the Bible and Science and Health, and the application of their teachings. Whenever problems presented themselves it was easier for me to ask for the aid of practitioners, who gave lovingly of their time and understanding.
Then in 1955 I had primary class instruction in Christian Science. This opened my eyes to the need of honest, consistent study and application of the truths we had learned. Since then I have been able to work out my own problems with the help of God. Colds, cuts, and a stiffening of the wrist muscles in my left hand were quickly overcome; the wrist was healed by my knowing that God is all-active and that muscles are only products of mortal mind, so called, and therefore no part of man, made in God's image and likeness.
Shortly after reading Mrs. Eddy's words from Science and Health (p. 84), "To understand that Mind is infinite, not bounded by corporeality, not dependent upon the ear and eye for sound or sight nor upon muscles and bones for locomotion, is a step towards the Mind-science by which we discern man's nature and existence," I realized that the stiffness and tension had completely vanished. This meant a great deal to me, since my work requires a considerable amount of typing.
