I had been brought up to believe...
I had been brought up to believe that suffering is the will of God, and I had believed this until I became interested in Christian Science. Then I read this passage in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 393): "Mind is the master of the corporeal senses, and can conquer sickness, sin, and death. Exercise this God-given authority. Take possession of your body, and govern its feeling and action." I knew then that suffering is not the will of God. Since then we have had many wonderful proofs in our home of the healing efficacy of Christian Science.
One time, in trying to save a blind man from injury, I was knocked down by a government bus and rushed to the hospital in an unconscious state. When f regained consciousness after nine hours, the doctors advised that I go to a large hospital. But I thought of how Christ Jesus had demonstrated the power of Truth to heal the sick and of how Mrs. Eddy had discovered Christian Science, with its healing power. I wanted to rely wholly on God, and so I said, "I can't agree to that."
Then through my sincere prayer to God to see man as His perfect likeness, I was able to overcome the injury to the astonishment of the doctors. While in the hospital I had had no special treatment or medication.
