Los Angeles, California (Thirty-sixth Church).

Thirty-sixth Church of Christ, Scientist, Los Angeles, California, will dedicate its church edifice at 4032 Whitsett Avenue, Studio City, at 11 a.m., 3 and 8 p.m. services tomorrow ....

According to church history, a small group of earnest Christian Scientists made arrangements in the spring of 1939 to hold Sunday School and church services in the Studio City Theater. Six months later the group was recognized as a Christian Science Society by The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.

The society grew steadily, and in December, 1940, they moved into their own quarters on the second floor of the building at the corner of Laurelgrove Avenue and Ventura Boulevard. Following this, on April 17, 1941, the society received recognition as Thirty-sixth Church of Christ, Scientist, Los Angeles.

The present Whitsett Avenue site was purchased in May, 1946, and construction on the new church edifice began in August, 1950 .... Financing was made possible through unsecured loans made by members and friends of the church. The first church service in the new edifice was held on February 17, 1952.—Valley Times(May 2, 1959).
