God's Freemen
In Christ Jesus' time many people of Israel were looking for a king or ruler who would free them from tyranny and enslavement, readjust inequalities, and establish a sense of dominion over opposing forces. But when Jesus appeared and presented God as King, this ruling authority was, it seems, not recognized or was too impersonal for most of them to accept. Even though they saw this power of God, Truth, Life, and Love, as demonstrated by Christ Jesus, heal and save, only a few understood his teaching and accepted the Christ as their Saviour.
Jesus could see that even his close followers were not then ready for the full, freeing message he was presenting and demonstrating. Hence his promise, "I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever" (John 14:16) .
The Comforter, or spirit of Truth, has always been present to lead the way to spiritual freedom for mankind, and this Comforter is revealed in Christian Science today.
