The Unifying Effect of Law

The important effect of any right law is to unify the action of individuals. To illustrate: Unification of action under law is seen when light signals, designed to regulate the flow of traffic and keep it from tangling at intersections, are obeyed. This obedience protects the individual driver and prevents him from endangering the safety of others.

Such obedience demonstrates justice and mercy, which are essential to unity. They bind mankind in mutual respect; whereas injustice and callousness divide men and promote disaster. The expression of justice and mercy can straighten out any kind of human tangle and restore peace, because these qualities are inherent in the action of divine law, which governs all—a fact provable through Christian Science.

This Science reveals God's universe to be spiritual and every identity in it to be fully controlled by His law, the force, or action, of His will. Hence there is perpetual unity in real being. In Science, God, Love, is the divine Principle of every individual, and the will of God for the harmony of His offspring is enforced. Nothing can change this eternal order. If divisions and discord seem to exist to human sense, this unnatural situation must be seen as an illusion which vanishes when the true order is understood.
