Christian Science came to my attention during my service in the merchant marine in World War II, while I was at sea. Soon thereafter, in one of the busiest ports of the world I found myself in front of a Christian Science Reading Room. I entered and was shown the textbook. When I had read only the first few lines, I knew I had found the pearl of great price, and I immediately purchased a copy of the book.

At the time that this occurred, my experiences had sunk me into the deepest night. I now know that it was God, universal divine Love, and a realization of what Christian Science does that penetrated my night of materialism and brought me up out of a pit. I read this little book night and day during my next voyage. The truth that I found was what I had been long searching for.

Christian Science meets every conceivable need. Ten years ago I had a severe fall while skiing in the Rocky Mountains. Previous medical training, as well as the pain, told me that I had broken or badly sprained my ankle. I was able to reach out instantly for spiritual ideas. They came clearly and with power from an article in The Christian Science Journal, which I had been reading en route to the area. I realized their truth, arose, and continued my skiing without a moment more of pain or any aftereffects.
