Truth Restores Health and Harmony
Several centuries before the mission of Christ Jesus, the prophet Jeremiah caught a glimpse of the power of God to heal. He recorded God, or Truth, as saying (30:17), "I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds." The Master proved in many specific cases of healing by spiritual means that what Jeremiah recorded was true. He restored sight, hearing, and the power of speech to those who had lost these faculties. He restored a man's withered arm to soundness. He restored Peter's wife's mother to health. He restored Lazarus to life, and he said (John 8:31, 32), "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
Christian Science today is preaching and utilizing the truth in accordance with the Master's instruction to preach, heal, and save as he did. Health is again being restored by prayer alone, and harmony is being established through the understanding of God and of man as the perfect expression of God.
It is not possible to restore anything that is actually nonexistent. One may lose or mislay an article of value and later have it restored intact. Although it was lost to the owner's sense, it existed intact or it could not have been returned. But in God's realm that which is real and eternal can never be lost.
