I am deeply grateful to have the privilege of studying this most practical religion, Christian Science. It teaches us, among many other things, how to demonstrate God. Mrs. Eddy writes on pages 471 and 472 of Science and Health, "This Science teaches man that God is the only Life, and that this Life is Truth and Love; that God is to be understood, adored, and demonstrated; that divine Truth casts out suppositional error and heals the sick."

When I first read the phrase, "God is to be understood, adored, and demonstrated," it seemed to my understanding at that time to be almost blasphemous. How, I asked, can God be demonstrated? I subsequently learned that God is Love and that it is easy to demonstrate love. I also learned that God is Mind and that He is demonstrated whenever divine intelligence is expressed. I had an opportunity of proving this over twenty years ago.

One Sunday morning, when preparing to go to church, I was suddenly attacked by severe abdominal pains. In response to my call a Christian Science practitioner came immediately and prayed with me for about an hour until the pain subsided a little. The difficulty was one of obstruction. My attention was drawn to Mrs. Eddy's words (ibid., p. 283), "Mind is the source of all movement, and there is no inertia to retard or check its perpetual and harmonious action." I was impressed by the opening phrase of the statement and began to repeat it silently and almost continually for two days.
