"THE ROBE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS"
Peter evidently grasped the spiritual meaning of Christ Jesus' question (Matt. 16:15), "Whom say ye that I am?" for he correctly replied, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God." The disciple unquestionably understood that the Christ was the spiritual selfhood, the divine character, of the man Jesus.
Isaiah declared (61:10), "I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness."
Jesus wore more effectively than any other individual before or since his time "the robe of righteousness"; that is, he expressed the spiritual qualities of God as his true being and showed mortals how to do likewise.
