While suffering from chronic bowel trouble and waiting to have a major operation, I felt that all hope and happiness had gone from me. A consecrated Christian Science practitioner helped me to gain an enlightened understanding of the love of God, which inspired and encouraged me. Christian Science treatment entirely healed me, although medical aid of several years had failed to cure me.

So profound was the effect of this experience that I became a sincere student of Christian Science. Other healings followed, and heavy burdens were laid down. I was led to join The Mother Church, as well as a Christian Science Society, in which I have joyfully served our great Cause as Second Reader and in other capacities.

Soon after World War II, when it was almost impossible to obtain a house or flat to rent, we were requested to leave the house in which we were living in order to allow the owner to return to it. At first, dismay filled my thoughts, and then the words of Mrs. Eddy on page 3 of "Pulpit and Press" were studied: "Our surety is in our confidence that we are indeed dwellers in Truth and Love, man's eternal mansion. Such a heavenly assurance ends all warfare, and bids tumult cease, for the good fight we have waged is over, and divine Love gives us the true sense of victory. 'They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of Thy house; and Thou shalt make them drink of the river of Thy pleasures.' " Through our realizing the truth in this heavenly message we were offered a spacious fiat suitable for our needs.
