My introduction to Christian Science came shortly after World War I, when in the course of conversation with an acquaintance I made the statement, "God knew what He was doing when He caused the war in order to make the world safe for democracy."

My friend lovingly corrected me by saying: "God does not cause wars. The Bible tells us that God is Love."

This remark aroused my interest, for I had always been taught that God punishes His children. I inquired about my friend's religion, and he answered that he was a student of Christian Science.
